Calling fellow Kansai linguaphiles for the 1st ProZ.com PowWow in Osaka.
I will be visiting Osaka (my Japanese ̋) and thought a PowWow to meet other language professionals in the area would be a swell idea.
How about at 4:00 at an Izakaya in Umeda? Does anyone have any preferences on time? We'll decide on the time and other details as soon as I get an idea of attendance.

I actuallly have a friend getting married in Osaka the same weekend. The problem is I don't know anybody except her and not sure if I want to go to the wedding alone (I'll be sitting there myself and don't know anybody). Once I resolve that dilemma, I'll know if I can attend the powwow. . .

PowWow update
Aug 10, 2005
Hello Osaka PowWow attendees,
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer.
The Osaka PowWow is around 3 weeks away. Currently, 7 people are definitely coming, with another 2 or 3 still undecided. If any of you plan on bringing a friend or family member, please let me know in advance.

Along with some friends, I am researching possible venues to hold the event...trying to find a centrally located Izakaya thats not too formal with a private area to meet. I should have come up with a place by the end of next week.

How about this place?
Aug 22, 2005
Hello Osaka PowWow attendees!
I initially suggested a 3:00 PM start time to avoid the crowds, but few places are open at that time. My appologies, but lets move the start time up to 5:00 PM.
I've been searching for a suitable Izakaya in the Umeda area that strikes a balance between the right atmosphere (not too loud, not too stuffy), budget, and convenience. Most charge around 3000 to 3500 for set meals, not including drinks. Anything below this price... See more

Most charge around 3000 to 3500 for set meals, not including drinks. Anything below this price range will place us at ˜a–¯ with a bunch of highschool kids though.
They have a 3000 Yen course meal, with a ˆù‚Ý•ú‘è option for 1400 more. Unfortunately, the ˆù‚Ý•ú‘è option is for ALL members only. With the ˆù‚Ý•ú‘è option, that would come to 4620 Yen per person with tax.
Would you prefer to have the ˆù‚Ý•ú‘è option or no?

so do i get off at higashi umeda?
Aug 22, 2005
I'm not familliar with the area - should I get off at higashi-mueda?
I have no problem with the suggested location. If you drink more than three glasses then we should go with the ˆù‚Ý•ú‘è As for me I'm allergic to beer (hops) so I'm wondering if the all-you-can-drink option can include cocktails and/or sake/sho-chu/wine etc.
AFAIK Watami is an izakaya; are high-school kids allowed to step into an izakaya? Correct me wrong...

I visited the homepage of the restaurant and find it very nice. It is OK for me to have ˆù‚Ý•ú‘èas well as Mikito-san. Higshiumeda is the nearest station to the restaurant. You can get a detailed map on the site.
