Conversion from rtf back to mif

Hello,

English to Chinese.

Heres the question.

I had Framemaker files converted them to .mif files
Set up a project in trados and converted them to stf files.
the files i got are rtf files. I sent them to the translator. He sent the file back to me as rtf files.

I put them back in the trados project and converted them back to the "Original Format".

When I open the mif files in framemaker the translated text is jibberish
if I open the rtf file in word it is fine.

If I convert the non translated rtf files the I made before sending to translater they convert back fine.

Hi!

It is quite normal, unless you haven't done the font-mapping, the cleaned mif text becomes "jibberish".

Word is smart and very user-friendly, and it can figure out the encoding of the text and try to apply the fonts installed on your system, but FrameMaker doesn't do such a trick.

There should be a Trados (online) help page explaining how to map original paragraph fonts (English fonts) to target (Chinese) fonts (sorry, I'm not a Trados user any longer ... See more

There should be a Trados (online) help page explaining how to map original paragraph fonts (English fonts) to target (Chinese) fonts (sorry, I'm not a Trados user any longer but I do handle lots of FrameMaker files). Or, if you know a DTP specialist, s/he should know how to handle the character/paragraph designer setting.

I also meet with this trouble in Framemaker 7.0 sometimes.
For some languages, you need another setting in S-tagger for FrameMaker of Trados:
In setting tab of S-tagger:
Set fonts as symbol, not character.
Please read Trados Knowledge Base.
FrameMaker 8.0 uses unicode fonts; you can avoid this restriction.
