* access to the online session with a Q&A portion,
* unlimited access to video recording (available within one working week after the session),
* a certificate of attendance available for download from your ProZ.com profile.
Important: Those that purchase a seat in advance may be able to pay an "early bird" or cheaper price, and those that confirm participation later or last minute, may likely get to pay a higher fee. In some training sessions a price increase based on the number of registrants may also apply, i.e. the first 15 registered pay one price, the next 10 pay a a slightly higher price etc.
Early payment is advised in order to secure participation and help reach the course minimum participation - unfortunately, courses may occasionally be cancelled or rescheduled, if the confirmed participation in advance is very low.
Even if you do not attend the online session you will still have unlimited access to the video recording within one working week after the session.
This course will consist of a series of interactive three hour workshops designed to provide participants with a broad knowledge of English medical terminology. For the purpose of organization, each organ system will be presented and discussed separately. This includes basic anatomical terms, diagnostic procedures and common pathological conditions. All of the information presented is indispensable to those wishing to enter the field of medical translation. The first workshop will concentrate on the brain and nervous system, respiratory system and sensory system. The second workshop will discuss the cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, skeletal and muscular systems; the third workshop will delve into the integumentary and gastrointestinal systems, and the fourth workshop will focus on the endocrine and urinary systems, male and female reproductive systems.
Description
This 4-part workshop will present human anatomy from the perspective of a pharmaceutical/medical translator. We will look at each organ system in minute detail and even at a microscopic level. We will also look at the various pathologies for each organ system commonly studied during clinical trials at the microscopic level. Then we will look at the pharmacokinetics (the effect of the body on the drug) and supposed mechanism(s) of action for these drugs. For instance, sulfonylureas are used to manage type 2 diabetes. But, how do they do this at a microscopic level? It is important for pharmaceutical/medical translators to understand this type of information because it occurs frequently in clinical trial documentation. Please do not hesitate to contact me at carmensuecross@yahoo.com if you have any questions.
Participants will receive free access to watch the recorded version of the workshop, a .pdf version of the presentation and a resource list.
Target audience
Translators new to the medical field.
Translators considering specializing in medicine.
Learning objectives
Students will learn how to analyze and understand English medical terminology, including prefixes, root words and suffixes. These are invaluable skills for translators specializing (or wish to specialize) in the medical field. They will also learn the basic anatomy of the human body, as well as common pathological conditions and diagnostic procedures common to each body system. In addition, students will be able to practice what they've learned through real-time exercises with instant feedback from the instructor.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.

Order of webinars
Aug 4, 2015
Hi, I have registered to attend the series of 4 medical translation webinars. I think there is an error, as the order of the topics covered in the webinars varies on Proz.com, depending on whether I click on the specific webinar link, or the course outline. Could you tell me - which is the first topic of discussion, on August 6 - "Cardiovascular and lymphatic systems, skeletal and muscular systems", or "Brain and nervous system, respiratory system, sensory system". Thank you, Rebecca

Re: reschudeling of first seminar
Aug 6, 2015
Hello,
First of all, I wish the trainer a speedy recovery.
Regarding the rescheduling of the first session for September I was wondering whether the rest of the course sessions will be offered again at a later time. I have already registered and paid for the first session, and I was thinking first to see how this would go for me before registering for the rest of the course.
Thank you, Rania

Hi Rania,
I am sorry for any inconvenience but if you are interested in attending one session and then decide as for the rest of the courses, I can transfer your registration and payment from the rescheduled course to the next week session. The next webinar will take place on August 13th at 2pm GMT. Will it be suitable for you? Thanks!
Helen

Thank you for offering that. I did not know that this would be possible but if you could transfer my registration to the next week session that would be great.
