Translation - English China soon obese superpower
Every day, new statistics come to report the dynamism of the Chinese economy, but there is one area where popular China risks surpassing very soon the American giant, that of obesity.
A study conducted by the journal Health Affairs, reveals that more than one quarter of the country’s population is currently obese or overweight. However this figure represents more than 330 million people, the equivalent of the number of inhabitants of the United States! Perhaps also more surprising is the accelerated progression of the prevalence of obesity since the opening to the . In the first investigation conducted on the subject in 1985, the health authorities had evaluated at 0.5 the percentage of the Chinese population obese or overweight, in 2002, this number had moved to 17% before reaching 25% in 2007.
The considerable increase in the number of overweight and obese subjects in popular China is responsible for the fresh outbreak of mortality in the cities, whereas until now, this one tended to decrease since the growth recovery. Thus, the death rates of cardiovascular origin went from 48 to 61% in less than five years. This health evolution is one of the many challenges posed by the growth in the new industrialized countries (Brazil, China, India, Russia).
At one month of the Olympic Games of Beijing, promoting physical exercise won’t thus be too much!
