I am a qualified translator with over ten years’ experience in the translation industry. I hold a BA in German with Dutch from the University of Liverpool and an MA in Translation from Salford University.
Upon completing my post-graduate degree in 2000, I started my translation career as an in-house translator at SAP AG, a multinational software company. I worked at the company’s global headquarters in Waldorf, Germany, and was responsible for translating computer software, training courses, marketing material and other IT-related content.
After three years in this role, I returned to the UK to work as a project manager for a major international translation company. I was quickly promoted to the role of senior project manager with responsibility for managing large-scale localisation projects for a number of major company clients. This role provided a valuable insight into the field of project management and gave me an in-depth understanding of the needs of end clients.
I subsequently moved to the company’s in-house translation department, initially in the role of senior translator and then as the department manager. During my time as manager, I grew the department to cover all major Western European languages and expanded its remit to provide a greater focus on quality assurance and encourage translator involvement in training and project setup activities.
I have been working as a freelance translator since July 2011.
