Source text - English Regional markets rebounded in 3Q 2006 as investor sentiment was lifted by the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision to keep interest rates unchanged, the easing trend in oil prices to below US$60/brl and reduced inflationary pressures in selected regional economies. The Philippines and Indonesia markets outperformed with gains of 17% respectively while markets in Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore rose by more than 5% respectively. On Wall Street, the Dow eased to 10,739.3 points in mid-July following the surge in oil prices to a record high of US$78/brl. However, the subsequent retracement of oil prices coupled with expectations that U.S. interest rates have peaked helped the Dow to touch a near 6-year high of 11,718.5 points in late September. Mild profit-taking caused the Dow to close the quarter at 11,679.1 points to register a gain of 4.7% while the Nasdaq rose 4% to 2,258.4 points over the same quarter.
