I have been working as a freelance translator and interpreter from English to Italian (and vice versa) since 1997. Over the years, I have worked with several Italian and international Language Service providers (LSPs), including esteemed companies like Languagewire A/S, MTT, COMTEC, and SDL International.
My journey in this profession began unexpectedly when the maritime agency I worked for faced bankruptcy in 1997. Previously, I served as the company's translator and interpreter for foreign operations. However, circumstances led to me being unemployed. While searching for new opportunities, a fortuitous encounter with an old friend in Milan opened the door to a transcription and translation project for a documentary. Taking on this task, I realized that translation and interpreting could become a fulfilling and prosperous career path. Over two decades later, I am still deeply passionate about my work, relishing the freedom it provides and the constant challenge of charting my professional course.
Thanks to family connections in Chester, England, I am perfectly bilingual. I spent my summer holidays there from a young age, creating a solid foundation in English. In fact, English became second nature to me, allowing me to speak and sound like a native Englishman, specifically a Northerner. Alongside my early language immersion, I also pursued formal education in English, culminating in successfully obtaining the Cambridge Proficiency exam certification in 1992. Later in my career, I achieved recognition as a qualified member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (UK) in 2002, followed by membership in the Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK) in 2007 after passing the IoL Diploma in Translation exam. In 2007/2008, I pursued further studies in interpreting, completing the MA Interpreting course at the London Metropolitan University and receiving the Postgraduate Diploma in Interpreting with Merit in December 2008.
Working as a translator and interpreter brings me immense satisfaction. Translation allows me the flexibility to work comfortably from home, managing my schedule while ensuring the timely delivery of projects. On the other hand, interpreting offers an exhilarating experience, allowing me to travel and meet fascinating individuals. When I need to unwind and recharge, music is my sanctuary. As a singer or bass guitarist, I actively participate in two bands. Artistic pursuits, including music, literature, cinema, and theatre, captivate my interests beyond translation and interpreting.
