Marlon was born at term with birthweight 6 lb. 12 oz. and stayed in the hospital for a week due to jaundice. He sat at 5 months and walked at one year. Single words were heard at 1 year, word combinations at 18 months and sentences at 2 years. He mastered toileting at 2.5 years and night dryness at 5. Hearing and vision tests at age 5 were normal. Marlon’s mother became concerned when he was 3 and he did not look at or respond to his mother when she was talking. Marlon is allergic to penicillin. He has no difficulties with eating or sleeping. Family medical history included asthma (brother), headaches (mother), heart problems (grandmother) and vision problems (father). Marlon had his first educational experience in kindergarten in 2016. Due to difficulties managing his behavior and interpersonal relationships in the classroom he was evaluated in January 2016 through Anderson Community School Corporation. Marlon demonstrated grade level math and language arts skills on the YCAT. His classroom performance was felt to be discrepant to achievement testing due to his distractibility. On the OWLS-2 his listening comprehension was 87 and expressive communication was 88. On the Social Language Development Test, he had difficulty taking the perspective of another person and proposing solutions to interpersonal problems that might benefit more than one person; he also had difficulty explaining why a solution to the problem would be good to use. Two areas of definite difference were found on the Sensory Profile-Short Form: under-responsive/seeks sensation and auditory filtering. Additional autism screening checklists were completed. The case conference committee found that he qualified as a student with an autism spectrum disorder. Progress notes from fall 2016 indicated progress on social skills with peers, identifying feeling states, and tolerating transitions across activities although challenges remain.

Se llenaron listas de verificación adicionales de detección de autismo. El comité consultivo del caso determinó que calificaba como un estudiante con un trastorno del espectro autista.
