Source text - Turkish Background: Günümüzde kas ve yağ dokusu başlıca adipokinler ve miyokinler aracılığı ile metabolizma regülasyonunda görev alan önemli endokrin organlar arasında sayılmaktadır. İrisin ise insülin direnci ile ilişkisi yakın zamanda tanımlanmış novel miyokindir. Literatürde şuana kadar psoriasis hastalarında serum irisin düzeyini değerlendiren çalışma bulunmamaktadır.
Objective: Çalışmamızda psoriasis hastalarında insülin direnci patogenezini aydınlatmak amacı ile plak tip psoriasis vulgaris hastalarında serum irisin düzeyinin ve insülin direnci ile ilişkili metabolik parametrelerin değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı.
Methods: Çalışmaya 40 orta-şiddetli kronik plak tip psoriasis vulgaris hastası ve 37 sağlıklı gönüllü dahil edildi. Hasta ve kontrol grubunda beden kitle indeksi (BKİ), bel çevresi ölçümleri yapıldı ve açlık kan şekeri, lipid profili, high sensitive CRP (hsCRP), insülin ve serum irisin düzeyleri değerlendirildi. İnsülin direncini değerlendirmek için Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA-IR) ve trigliserid/HDL (TG/HDL) oranı kullanıldı.
Translation - English Background: It is currently accepted that both muscle and fatty tissue, with the interaction of myokines and adipokines, are involved in the regulation of metabolism and are regarded today as functioning like important endocrine organs. Irisin has been recently identified as a novel myokine that is related to insulin resistance. In the literature to date, there are no studies evaluating serum irisin levels in psoriasis patients.
Objective: The present study is aimed to evaluate the pathogenesis of insulin resistance in psoriasis patients and to elucidate an association between insulin resistance and serum irisin levels in patients with plaque-type psoriasis vulgaris as related to other metabolic parameters.
Methods: The study included 40 moderate-to-severe chronic plaque-type psoriasis vulgaris patients and 37 healthy control group volunteers. Measurements assessed both in patients and in the control group were body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, high sensitivity CRP (hsCRP), insulin and serum irisin levels. To evaluate insulin resistance, Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA-IR) values and triglyceride /HDL-C (TG/HDL) ratios were used.
