Experience
Years of experience: 11. Registered at ProZ.com: Dec 2013.
Having grown up in a bilingual English/Italian household, Diana has had to navigate between two languages and cultures for as long as she can remember. Later on, her passion for languages brought her to reach advanced fluency of Spanish while living for nearly 2 years in Chile, South America. At the University of Chile, she had the opportunity to study human rights coursework in Spanish at the graduate level with University of Chile Law Professor Cecilia Medina, a judge of the Interamerican Court of Human Rights. Her love of Brazilian music has also led her to study the Portuguese language, travel multiple times to Brazil, and work as a video producer for the nonprofit World March of Women in São Paulo, Brazil.
When she speaks with native Spanish or native Portuguese speakers, they are always surprised at her excellent pronunciation and cultural fluency.
She began her formal translation work by being responsible for in-house translation of documents at the Global Fund for Women, an international grantmaking organization that partners with women's groups in Latin America, Africa, and the rest of the world. She worked there from 2006-2011 and was responsible for communicating in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and English, via phone, email, and letters with Latin American and African women's organizations, explaining contracts, policies and procedures, and ensuring that the due diligence and paperwork was in line with best practices in the field of U.S. international grantmaking. Subsequently working at Urgent Action for Women's Human Rights, she continued supporting grantmaking to women's activist organizations around the world.
As a freelance translator currently, she translates legal papers, academic papers in sociology, human rights, urban planning, medical records, and certificates for various international clients.
