Afrikaans to English: Letter to my son
| Translation - English "Dearest Luca, unconditional has always been a word that I did not truly understand, but your arrival changed that."
You came and disrupted my life, but for the best. You opened my heart and my eyes to the wonder of life itself. You were so impatient and curious that you gave us a fight by making your appearance at 30 weeks.
You were a little fighter from the first breath you took. You could hardly stand on your two little legs when you went charging into the waves and climbing over the couches and chairs, making Granny Wilhelmina's heart stop.
Mommy hopes that you will always go as fearlessly through life, because just if you are not familiar with something, it does not mean that you need to be afraid of it. May you carry that spontaneous gift with you and share it with everyone always. The world can do with a few energetic 'chancers'. |
English to Afrikaans: The lowdown on the new liquor laws
Source text - English How will these new liquor laws affect small restaurant owners?
Restaurants in the Western Cape will still able to sell alcohol on Sundays (however in areas like George only from 12-8), but no supermarket, restaurant or liquor store will be able to sell alcohol to take home. Wine farms are the only exception to this bill – they may sell wine to take home on a Sunday.
In Gauteng however, a draft bill has been proposed that has suggested that no alcohol may be sold on a Sunday at all. If this bill is passed, it will mean that no alcohol will be up for sale at restaurants, which would seriously affect all restaurant owners.
| Translation - Afrikaans Hoe sal die nuwe drankwette klein restauranteurs beinvloed?
