Source text - German Plattenepithelkarzinome der Kopf-Hals-Region (HNSCC) zählen seit Jahren zu den weltweit häufigsten Krebsarten. Trotz vieler Bemühungen hat sich das 5-Jahres-Überleben bei Patienten mit HNSCC kaum verbessert. Um einen Fortschritt zu erzielen, ist es notwendig, die der Erkrankung zugrunde liegenden biologischen Prozesse besser zu verstehen. Neben den bekannten genetischen Veränderungen haben molekular-zytogenetische Untersuchungen bei HNSCC gezeigt, dass es weitere Veränderungen gibt, die mit Vermehrung und Verlust chromosomaler Bereiche einhergehen, für die jedoch die krankheitsverursachenden Gene bisher nicht identifiziert wurden. Darüberhinaus haben jüngste Forschungsergebnisse verdeutlicht, dass epigenetische Modifikationen wie die DNA Methylierung eine wichtige Rolle spielen. So konnte gezeigt werden, dass bei HNSCC eine Reihe von Genen (z.B. das Tumorsuppressorgen CDKN2A sowie DAPK1, MGMT, TIMP3, TCF21, und C/EBPα) hypermethylierte Bereiche in regulatorischen DNA Sequenzen aufweisen, wodurch ihre Expression verringert oder unterbunden wird. Die Hypermethylierung solcher Gene könnte als Biomarker zur Früherkennung von HNSCC genutzt werden und nicht zuletzt dadurch zur Verbesserung von Prävention und Therapieerfolg beitragen.
Translation - English World-wide, squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck (HNSCC) have been among the most common cancers for years. Despite significant efforts, the 5-year survival rate in HNSCC patients has improved very little. In order to achieve progress, it is necessary to gain a better understanding of the biological processes that underlie this disease. In addition to the well-known genetic changes, molecular cytogenetic analysis of HNSCC has identified additional changes associated with duplications or deletions of chromosomal domains, but for which disease-causing genes have not been identified. Furthermore, recent research has demonstrated that epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation play an important role. It was shown that a series of genes (e.g. the tumor suppressor gene CDKN2A, as well as DAPK1, MGMT, TIMP3, TCF21, and C/EBPα) show hypermethylation domains in their regulatory DNA sequences, resulting in their reduced or suppressed expression. Hypermethylation of these genes might serve as biomarkers for early diagnosis of HNSCC, and might contribute to improved prevention and therapeutic success.

Cependant, 33,3 millions de personnes sont porteuses d’une infection HIV avec 2,9 millions de nouveaux cas par an. Deux tiers de ces personnes vivent dans des pays en voie de développement (PVD) à ressources limitées, en particulier pour l’accès aux soins. Par ailleurs, le taux d’infection HIV est en augmentation dans plusieurs pays d’Europe de l’est ou d’Asie centrale. Globalement, la moitié des personnes infectées par le virus HIV sont des femmes et l’OMS estime que 1800 bébés naissent quotidiennement porteurs du virus HIV, car leurs mères n’ont pas accès aux soins ou aux médicaments pour cette infection.
