Bio
I am an American born and raised in New York, a graduate with honors of Columbia University in Italian and English Language and Literature. I have about 25 years of professional translating experience in various fields (see below), two of these being medical and legal translation.

My extensive experience as a translator, editor and writer, Italian to English, has been highly diversified, although somewhat geared to cultural subjects (the arts: music, literature, painting, graphic art, interior design; advertising and copywriting). I also have solid experience as an Italian-English medical translator--reviewer-editor.

As to my medical experience, I have done translations and transcripts of medical-legal expert witness and plaintiff and defendant depositions for the medical malpractice law firm of Bower and Gardner, NYC; translations of patients' medical charts for the Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC; translations, Italian-English, of articles for medical journals; Power Point presentations for international medical conferences; interpreting for patients, Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC, etc. Currently I work with 2 U.S. agencies doing translations of medical charts and reviews and editing of translations.

I have dual citizenship and have been a permanent resident in Italy since 1998. This rich bi-cultural life experience of more than th ree decades has also provided me the advantage of understanding not only language, but the life styles and customs and practices of both countries, in all walks of life. I am flexible, creative, and open to suggestions and instructions from clients in the interest of achieving not only accurate but readable translated text with undisturbed flow. With a degree in Literature, and as an author myself of an historical novel, I am particularly sensitive to the tone and style of creative texts and to the need to remain faithful to and respectful of the original text to avoid the 'translator-traitor' pitfall.

My favorite areas and professional expertise: Literature (fiction and non-fiction), History, Film, Media, Medicine, Theater, Law, Psychology, Cuisine and Gastronomy.

I have worked on a consistent basis in recent years as translator of animated films (screenplays) for Italian animated film makers. I enjoy the creative and colloquial language involved in these projects. Recently, I have worked in the music sector as interpreter for singers/songwriters like Patti Smith (in Macerata for the series Aperitivo Culturale the day before her performance at the Sferisterio in Macerata), at a Press Conference for Musicultura (Macerata) for singer Donovan, and again as interpreter for a press conference in Macerata for the series Aperitivo Culturale the day before the season premier of Aida.

It has been my great fortune to feel passionate about my work; I consider translating, editing and reviewing to be constant and rewarding challenges.

I work in Microsoft Word with proper formatting or with formatting to satisfy your requirements. I handle queries and revisions online.

I am happy to provide estimates on projects but an estimate is not cast in stone; every project is different as to content, length, and deadlines. For Italian law I am a collaboratrice esterna (freelance). The estimates I provide for Italian projects paid in euro already include 20% VAT and should be paid into either my PayPal account or my Italian bank checking account. U.S. payments in dollars can be paid into my PayPal account or directly into my NYC US checking account. My rates quoted on this Proz site can also be negotiated on a forfeit basis, depending on length, complexity and final due dates.

I am of course available and happy to answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information or discussion (or negotiation) at lisataruschio58@gmail.com.
