Regarding the Regulations of the Code of Thesis Practice
The Year of 2007
To approve according to Article 35.3.11 of Silpakorn University regulations in accordance with Graduate Studies of the year 2007.
By virtue of Article 4 of Silpakorn University regulations regarding the Graduate Studies of 2007, the Dean of the Graduate School by the approval of the committee of the Graduate School, at its 5th meeting of 2007 on May 22, 2007 approved the following regulations:
1. These regulations shall be called “Silpakorn University, Graduate Studies Regulations regarding the code of thesis practice of the year 2007”.
2. To annul “Silpakorn University Graduate School Regulations regarding the code of thesis practice of the year 2000” and “Silpakorn University Graduate School Regulations regarding the code of thesis practice of the year 2001” and use these regulations instead.
3. The Regulations shall be applied from the beginning of the academic year of 2007.
4. Students shall thoroughly study and understand the thesis printing manual and regulations before beginning any process related to the thesis.
5. Approval of topic and thesis/dissertation project.
5.1 Students, who are qualified for topic and thesis/dissertation project approval shall submit the request form together with thesis/dissertation proposal in accordance with the form of Graduate Studies School and the number of the committee to which the topic and thesis/dissertation project will be approved by. Students shall submit the request form and thesis/dissertation proposal to the department in accordance with the procedure each department specified.
5.2 Students shall explain and answer any existing questions relating to the thesis/dissertation topic and project to the thesis approval committee stipulated by the department.
6. Thesis/Dissertation registration.
6.1 After the topic and thesis/dissertation project is approved, students shall have the thesis/dissertation registration in accordance with the time specified in the academic calendar and pay for the thesis/dissertation registration fee.
6.2 In case students receive the topic and thesis/dissertation project approval after the scheduled registration time according to academic calendar, students shall have the thesis/dissertation registration in the next semester. Except the students, who will graduate in the academic semester to which the topic and thesis/dissertation project is approved, students can have the thesis/dissertation registration in that semester by getting the approval from the thesis principal advisor.
6.3 Students shall process the thesis/dissertation in accordance with the advice of the thesis principal advisor or of co-advisor (if any). Students shall inform any progress of the thesis/dissertation to the thesis principal advisor or co-advisor (if any) in every semester.
6.4 At the end of each semester, Graduate School will submit the thesis progress evaluation form to the thesis principal advisor for the evaluation of the progress of the students. After receiving the evaluation result, Graduate School will announce the result accordingly.
7. Changing topic and thesis/dissertation project or thesis advisor.
7.1 Any request for insignificant changes relating to the thesis/dissertation, for example topic name of the thesis, students shall submit the request for approval to the Dean of the Graduate School. Students shall give an explanation of changing by respectively submitting the request to the thesis principal advisor, the head of the department and the chief of the Graduate Studies Committee.
7.2 If students would like to change the topic and thesis/dissertation project or the vital concept of the thesis/dissertation, they have to process the request of the approval of the topic and thesis/dissertation project again.
7.3 After the request is submitted, students shall follow up the result of the approval of the changing related to the topic and thesis/dissertation project.
7.4 For the request of changing the thesis advisor, the department shall process the request by submitting the request to Graduate School. Graduate School request form shall be applied for this case as well.
8. Thesis/Dissertation’s arrangement and printing
8.1 Students shall arrange and print the thesis/dissertation in accordance with the form and size standardized by the Graduate School. The same form and size shall be applied through the whole thesis arrangement.
9. Thesis/Dissertation Examination.
9.1 To be able to qualified for thesis/dissertation examination, students shall get the written approval from the thesis principal advisor.
9.2 Students shall submit the request for thesis/dissertation examination to the Graduate School for two weeks in advance before the day of the examination. The request will be submitted to the head of the department and the board of the Graduate Studies Committee of the department. Students shall submit the thesis/dissertation in accordance with the number of the committee to which the thesis/dissertation is examined by. Students shall prepare one extra copy for thesis/dissertation form inspection and attach the request for thesis/dissertation form inspection to the extra copy.
10. Submission of the Complete Thesis/Dissertation.
10.1 Students shall revise the thesis/dissertation’s contents and form according to the ruling of the thesis inspection committee. After that, students shall prepare two copies of the complete (final) thesis/dissertation with the signature of all of the thesis inspection committee. One copy of the complete thesis/dissertation shall be formally arranged and bound into a book. Students shall arrange one page of the complete recorded information of thesis/dissertation in PDF file with the resolution not less than 300 DPI without scanning images together with an excerpt in both Thai and English in accordance with the form and font size specified by Graduate School.
10.2 The students shall be approved for graduation when they submit the complete (final) thesis/dissertation.
10.3 In case the students would like to publicize or contribute the thesis/dissertation to any division according to the binding agreement made between them, after the approval of the thesis/dissertation, students shall submit the page, to which all signatures of the thesis inspection committee are signed on for one set to the Dean of the Graduate School for the approval of the publication.
