Главной темой вчерашнего заседания президиума правительства стали, конечно же, последствия аномальной жары, которая продолжает терзать Россию. В частности, речь зашла о выплате компенсаций тем, у кого сгорели дома, и поддержке отечественных сельхозпроизводителей, чей урожай был
частично или полностью уничтожен засушливой погодой.
Глава кабинета министров Владимир Путин сообщил, что власти намерены откупорить интервенционный фонд зерна. «Конечно, государство было бы заинтересовано в продаже этих резервов с аукциона, но задача для нас с вами заключается в данном случае не в том, чтобы выручить побольше денег, а в том, чтобы помочь тем сельхозпроизводителям, которые в этом сегодня нуждаются, – заявил он. – Поэтому мы будем распределять зерно без аукционов, по заявкам регионов РФ, и регионы должны будут оказать эту помощь сельхозпредприятиям в соответствии с объективными критериями, разработанными Минсельхозом».
Кроме этого, по словам премьера, власти помогут сельхозпроизводителям деньгами. «Общий объем финансовой поддержки составит 35 млрд. руб., – сообщил он. – Из них 10 млрд. руб. – это прямая безвозмездная помощь в виде дотаций сельхозпроизводителям, а 25 млрд. руб. – трехлетние льготные бюджетные кредиты, в рамках которых предприятия могут закупить семена и решить текущие проблемы». Эти средства будут выделяться в два этапа – в августе и в октябре–ноябре после подведения итогов уборочных работ.
Но главную новость Владимир Путин приберег напоследок. Сделав прежде многозначительную паузу, он сообщил членам правительства еще об одном решении. «Считаю целесообразным ввести временный запрет на экспорт с территории РФ зерновых и других сельхозтоваров, производных от зерна, – заявил премьер. – Да, у нас достаточно резервов, но нам нужно не допустить роста внутренних цен на продовольствие в стране, нужно сохранить поголовье скота и нужно формировать резервы будущего года. Как у нас в народе говорят, «запас карман не тянет». По словам главы кабинета, этот запрет будет носить временный характер, а дальнейшие решения в сфере сельского хозяйства будут приняты в декабре по результатам уборочной кампании.

Translation - English Government Halts Grain Exports

The exceptional heat, which continues to torment Russia, became the main subject of yesterday’s cabinet meeting. The discussion particularly concerned compensation for people whose houses had burned down, as well as support for Russian farmers whose harvest had been partly or fully destroyed by drought.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced that authorities would begin to use the reserve grain stock. “The state would certainly have gained from an auction of these reserves, but in this situation our task is not to make more money, but to give aid to the agricultural producers who need it urgently,” he said. “So we will distribute the grain, without an auction, to each region of the Russian Federation that has submitted an application, and the regions will provide aid to the farmers, according to impartial criteria laid out by the Ministry of Agriculture.”
In addition, in the Premier‘s words, authorities will provide financial aid for farmers. “The total financial support comes to 35 billion roubles,” he said. “Of that amount, 10 billion roubles are a direct grant, in the form of a subsidy, for farmers. 25 billion roubles are three-year soft loans. With this support, the industry will be able to purchase seeds and solve current problems.” These funds will be allocated in two steps - one in August, and one from October to November after taking account of the harvest.
However, Vladimir Putin saved the most important news for last. After a significant pause, he informed the members of government of one more decision. “I have decided that it is expedient to issue a temporary halt on grain exports, and other agricultural goods produced from grain, from the Russian Federation,” the Premier announced. “We do have enough reserves, but we must not allow domestic food prices to rise. We need to maintain our cattle stock and we need to raise reserves for the future. Like the saying goes, to save for a rainy day.” In the words of the Prime Minister, this halt will be temporary, and subsequent decisions pertaining to agriculture will be made in December, according to results of the harvest.

В 1996 году партнёр Елены по фигурному катанию Олег Шляхов угодил ей лезвием конька в висок. У Лены оказался задет речевой центр - она не могла ни говорить, ни ходить. Врачи вынесли приговор: «Будет инвалидом». Но Лена не только выжила после чудовищной травмы, но и полностью восстановилась, вернувшись в фигурное катание. Помогли ей в этом её новый партнёр Антон Сихарулидзе и огромное желание снова выйти на лёд. Сейчас Елена Бережная, уйдя из официального спорта, выписывает пируэты вместе с Михаилом Галустяном на проекте «Ледниковый период» и занимается воспитанием двоих малышей, которых она родила от фигуриста-англичанина Стивена Казинса. Теперь о той жуткой травме и романтических отношениях с Сихарулидзе Елена лишь говорит: «Всё в прошлом. У меня уже другая жизнь».
- Елена, насколько я знаю, вы, помимо фигурного катания, ещё и пытались освоить карьеру бизнесвумен: открыли кафе в родном Невинномысске. И даже «ходили» в политику…
- Кафе у меня больше нет. Как выяснилось, в нашем городе это абсолютно бесполезное занятие. В политике же моя должность ещё в силе - я депутат Ставропольского края. Но обязанности свои не исполняю - нахожусь в декретном отпуске. Вообще политика - непростое для меня дело.

Translation - English Elena Berezhnaya: “I'm Not Yet Married!”
“I have always said that a figure skater, a married man, or a man with a different nationality could never be my true love. As it's turned out, I have fallen in love with a foreign figure skater, and a married one at that,” Elena Berezhnaya told “Arguments and Facts.”
In 1996, Elena's figure skating partner, Oleg Shliakhov, injured her temple with his skate blade. Elena's speech ability was affected; she could neither speak nor walk. The doctors gave the diagnosis that “she will have a disability.” Lena, however, not only pulled through her horrible injury, but fully recovered, returning afterwards to figure skating. She found a lot of support from her new partner Anton Sikharulidze, and from her intense desire to step out onto the ice once more. Now, Elena Berezhnaya has stopped skating professionally, and carefully practices pirouettes with Mikhail Galustyan for the “Ice Age” project. She is also busy raising the two children she had with, Steven Cousins, the English figure skater. Elena only has this to say about that terrible injury and her romantic relationship with Sikharulidze: “It's all in the past. My life is different now.”
Elena, as far as I know, apart from figure skating, you also tried to develop a business career; you opened a cafe in your hometown Nevinnomyssk. You've even gone into politics...
My cafe has closed. It's a rather useless pursuit in my city, as I've discovered. Politically, my position is still quite strong; I'm an MP in the Stavropol region. But I'm not working – I'm on maternity leave. Politics are, generally, a serious matter for me.

Причесаться Ника причесался — сделал аккуратный пробор посередине и даже во¬лосы смазал для блеска. Но оделся не по-Валиному, а так, как одеваются снобы в Ан-глии: темно-синий пиджак, белая рубашка с галстуком (на нем эмблема Итона), свет¬лые брюки, вычищенные до блеска черные туфли, из кармашка чуть-чуть торчит голу¬бой платочек. Майкл Кейн, фильм «Dirty Rotten Scoundrels». Тетя Синтия бы одо¬брила.
Ровно в час дня, с улицы Солянка, с тру¬дом вписавшись в подворотню, въехал лиму¬зин «бентли» цвета первого снега.
За рулем сидела Валентина: дамский брючный костюм, зеркальные очки, в ухе провод. На заднем сиденье виднелся силуэт Саши, но Ника так остолбенел, что туда даже не посмотрел.
— Класс! — одобрила ассистентка наряд шефа. — Реальный «бритиш».
— Ты что, с ума сошла? Я же сказал: не¬приметную! Ты бы еще на «хаммере» при¬ехала!
— «Хаммер» на Рублевке точно бы никто не заметил, — согласилась Валя. — Их там, как «жигулей» в городе Тольятти. Нам не подходит. Зато эта тачка какая надо. У друга покататься взяла. Всё под контролем, шеф. Лучше на цыпу нашу посмотрите. Сашка, алле!
Из машины неловко вылезла Саша Моро¬зова. Фандорин едва ее узнал.
Волосы — платинового цвета, распущены и расчесаны. Маечка, вся из бисера, фасоном и размером скорее напоминает лифчик. В пупке, непонятно на чем держась, сверкает огромный страз. Белая юбчонка едва при¬крывает бедра, зато красные бархатные сапоги натянуты выше колен. Косметики нало¬жено столько, что лица не видно.
— Вот уставился! — ревниво воскликнула Валентина. — Эх, что я, дура, натворила!
А Саша виновато пролепетала:
— Она сказала, так для дела нужно.
И попробовала оттянуть юбку пониже.
— Время, господа, время! — поторопила Валя. — Щучка, она же акула, играет в тен¬нис до двух. А нам еще через весь город гнать.
Translation - English As per Valya’s request, Nick had styled his hair, alright – he made a precise part in the middle and even applied some pomade for shine. He did not dress according to Valya’s instructions, but the way that snobs dress in England: a dark blue blazer; white shirt with a tie (which bore the Eton crest); light-coloured pants; black shoes, polished until they shone; and from his top pocket a light blue handkerchief poked out ever so slightly. Michael Caine, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” Aunt Cynthia would have approved.
Exactly at 1 pm, a Bentley limousine the colour of first snow manoeuvred through the passageway from Solyanka street with great difficulty.
Valya sat behind the wheel in a ladies' pantsuit, mirrored sunglasses and an earpiece. In the back seat Sasha's silhouette was visible, but Nick was so rooted to his spot, that he didn't even glance over there.
“Brilliant!” His assistant approved of her chief's attire. “Proper Brit!'”
“Have you gone out of your mind!? I said, 'inconspicuous!' You might as well have come in a Hummer!”
“Not a single person would notice a Hummer on the Rublevka.” agreed Valya. “There, it’d blend in like a Toyota in Cambridge or Woodstock. It won't do for us. That's why these kinds of wheels are just what's needed. I borrowed it from a friend for a ride. It's all under control, Chief. You’d do better to look at our chicky. Sasha, allez!”
Sasha Morozova stumbled out of the car ungracefully. Fandorin hardly recognized her.
Her hair was platinum blonde, combed out and let down. She wore a top made entirely out of glass beads, in a style and size that was most like a bra. From her navel, attached to who knows what, hung a massive rhinestone. Her white miniskirt barely covered her thighs, but then her red velvet boots were pulled up over her knees. She had makeup on so thick that her face was no longer visible.
“And now you're staring!” exclaimed Valentina with jealousy. “Ech, what have I done, I'm a fool!”
Sasha guiltily added, “She said that this is necessary for our mission.” And she tried to tug her skirt down lower.
“It's time, gentleman, it's time!” Valya hurried them. “We have a big fish to fry, and she a shark who plays tennis until two. And we still need to drive across the whole city.”

I graduated in June 2010 with a B.A. in Russian (First Class Honours) and a B.A. in English (with Distinction). One of the highlights of my academic career was the Honours thesis I wrote, a 150,000 word translation from a contemporary Russian work of literature. It was hailed by the entire Russian department of the University of Calgary as an impressive translation.
Since graduating, I have begun taking the steps involved towards certification with CCTIC. I am involved in a mentorship program through the Alberta Translators and Interpreters Association (ATIA). Also, I am in the middle of a full-length literary translation of a contemporary Russian, which has the potential to be put on by the University of Calgary Drama Department.
This is the beginning of what I fully expect and intend to be a successful translating career; I am looking for experience in all areas of translation, and am very versatile. I offer very low rates because I would like to start building a large and varied basis for my future in the field. I am most experienced in the fields of Language and Linguistics, Education, Literature, Poetry and Slang.
