English to Spanish: String Theory Interview on Scientific American Nov 2003 General field: Science Detailed field: Physics
Source text - English SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN:Sometimes when our readers hear the words “string theory” or “cosmology,” they throw up their hands and say, “I’ll never understand it.”
BRIAN GREENE:I’ve definitely encountered a certain amount of intimidation at the outset when it comes to ideas like string theory or cosmology. But what I have found is that the basic interest is so widespread and so deep in most people that I’ve spoken with, that there is a willingness to go a little bit further than you might with other subjects that are more easily taken in.
SA:I noticed that at several points in The Elegant Universe, you first gave a rough idea of the physics concepts and then the detailed version.
BG:I found that to be a useful way of going about it, especially in the harder parts. It gives the reader permission: If the rough idea is the level at which you want to take it in, that’s great; feel free to skip this next stuff. If not, go for it. I like to say things more than one way. I just think that when it comes to abstract ideas, you need many roads into them. From the scientific point of view, if you stick with one road, I think you really compromise your ability to make breakthroughs. I think that’s really what breakthroughs are about. Everybody’s look- ing at a problem one way, and you come at it from the back. That different way of getting there somehow reveals things that the other approach didn’t.
Si no, éntrale.
English to Spanish: Aspirin vs. Recurrent Miscarriage General field: Medical Detailed field: Medical (general)
Source text - English Recurrent miscarriage (three or more consecutive losses of pregnancy) is experienced by 1 to 2% of fertile women. Causes include the antiphospholipid syndrome, thrombophilia, parental balanced translocations, uterine abnormalities (Mullerian fusion defects, fibroids) and bacterial vaginosis. No apparent cause is found in approximately 50% of cases.
Several treatments have been used have been used either as single agents or in combination to improve the rate of live births in women with recurrent miscarriage with anti-phospholipid antibodies. These include corticosteroids, low dose aspirin, heparin and immunoglobulins.
English to Spanish: Keppra Levetiracetam Abreviated Product Information (little extract) General field: Medical Detailed field: Medical: Pharmaceuticals
Source text - English The most commonly reported undesirable effects were somnolence, hostility, nervousness, emotional lability, agitation, anorexia, asthenia and headache in the paediatric population. Safety results in paediatric patients were consistent with the safety profile of levetiracetam in adults except for behavioural and psychiatric adverse events which were more common in children than in adults (38.6% versus 18.6%). However, the relative risk was similar in children as compared to adults. Undesirable effects that resulted from Keppra intavenous use are similar to those associated with Keppra oral use.
