Fully
qualified German to English translator – also fully qualified in Dutch to
English translation - MA qualification – over 13 years’ full-time experience –
Trados user (including Studio 2017) – reliable – punctual - accurate
I graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1989 with a 2:1 in German with Dutch. This included distinctions in both oral examinations and the University Dutch Prize. I qualified as a teacher in 1991 and spent thirteen years teaching French and German at secondary level.
I have been working as a freelance translator since January 2006. In this capacity I have undertaken a wide range of assignments in the directions German to English and Dutch to English. Much
of the work has been of a technical nature. Recent texts have included operating manuals, quotations for installation, service reports, training manuals and company newsletters. So far I have
translated a total of over 200,000 words during the current financial year
since April 2018. This is consistent with my work rate over the twelve previous
years since I started working as a freelance translator. Here are some examples
of recent projects:
• Translation of a railway training presentation from Dutch to English (3,000
words)
• Translation of website articles for a beverage equipment manufacturer from
German to English (4,500 words)
• Translation of a report on children's health in the Netherlands from Dutch to English (15,000
words)
• Translation of a manual for industrial robots from German to English (15,000
words)
• Translation of a crane operating manual manual from German to English (3,200 words)
In addition to the above examples, I have several ongoing projects involving
updates of marketing material and websites for companies in Germany,
Switzerland and the Netherlands. Cooperation with some of these companies goes
right back to my earliest days as a freelance translator. My reputation for
accuracy, reliability and clear communication has enabled me to build up
productive, enjoyable and long-standing relationships with a wide variety of
customers.
