When I was young I loved reading and writing and spent most of my leisure time reading books and writing journals. My love for language has lasted throughout my life.
I majored in Politics and have taught Political Science in major colleges in Korea and the U.S. But the demand for my Korean to English translation and interpreting has always been higher than the demand for my teaching or research in Politics. The first time I did translation was for Alabama Power Company when I was teaching as Professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. The first time I interpreted was at Youido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, Korea when I was asked to provide simultaneous interpreting for the Sunday sermons.
Ever since then, there has been huge demand for my translation and interpreting to such an extent that I ultimately quit my job as college professor and started running my own translation school and company in Los Angeles. Looking back, I spent a half of my life in the U.S. and another half in Korea.
The demand continued to increase and sometimes I had 40 translators working with me day and night to meet the tight deadline of Boeing company, for example. Sometimes I stayed up for 3 days without closing eyes even for a minute, translating and proofreading legal documents for Apple vs. Samsung and Dupont vs. Kolon with my team of 20 translators. During the process, I have translated millions of words of patents from Korean to English, and from English to Korean. I have always enjoyed translating for the challenge of accuracy, and for the rewarding feeling of facilitating communication between the two different languages and cultures.
