Translation - English In the early 1990s, during negotiations to set the rules of the game for international trade and commerce for the years ahead, French politicians, irrespective of their ideological leaning, unanimously declared a war of 'cultural exception' on the USA. They then invited all European countries to join them on the intellectual side of the divide. France’s argument was polished and convincing – an ideological projectile put together with common sense and insight, outlining a vision for the future of the animate and fragile world of cinema and its extended family of audiovisual arts, which wholly deserves to be included in the folds of contemporary art, the art of the moving image, but which in Europe (with the exception of France) can hardly move at all, since it remains wedged in the few narrow corridors open to it in the midst of cinematic American colonisation. It is, no less, a matter of the freedom of every language and every culture to develop and disseminate its own image worldwide.
Every French politician fervently believes that European cinema borders on extinction, and that a framework of measures should be implemented as a matter of urgency to put a brake on the overwhelming domination of Hollywood distribution networks in the European market. To achieve this, cinema and its audiovisual cousins have to be afforded the status of Culture, thereby placing in the protected category of cultural exception, untouched by the power games that govern the markets. Cinema and audiovisual art cannot be treated in the same way as a commercial product; it is too important and delicate a creature to be left at the mercy of the private sector.
Ten years later and the results are plain to see on the streets and neon facades of our cities. Throughout Europe, Hollywood cinema is still in charge, except of course in France. The predictions were therefore accurate, and the preventative measures appropriate. But nobody except France adopted them. In Spain it was only three or four years ago that the Minister for Culture, Miguel Angel Cortes, pronounced with an air of self-satisfied petulance: “Spain is not interested in cultural exception”, that is to say, we are not interested in accepting cinema for what it really is: Culture. And let me add: in so doing we reduce Spanish cinema to the status of beggar, leaving it to feed off whatever titbits the charitable hand of Hollywood may throw at it, thereby condemning it to a fate of perpetual indignity.

Translation - English Concept
Unibongo offers a unique and unforgettable experience for groups of ten to several hundred, where participants unite in the rhythm of their company’s heartbeat. In a time when the virtual has become a normal part of everyday life, this interactive experience channels a fundamental force that keeps us in touch with real life, and helps us enjoy it to the max.
Our sessions last approximately one hour. We provide a “Jembe” drum to each employee or executive, inviting them to embark on a journey of musical and rhythmic exploration.
The surprise factor is key to our success; groups find themselves suddenly immersed in a totally new activity producing extraordinary results, with participants soon uniting naturally in rhythm and sounding like an orchestra.
Another key factor is that everything is kept very simple. Our learning methodology through percussion connects directly with participants’ intuition and emotions, fostering a strong sense of non-verbal communication, and what’s more, it is extremely enjoyable. With this approach we are able to convey the basics of choral work, play rhythmically, and learn how to communicate, listen and join in with enthusiasm. It is the ideal activity for breaking the ice and finding group synergy.
We work all over the world without cultural, linguistic, gender, age or religious barriers, providing an essential instrument for socio-cultural cohesion with team spirit as a central theme.
Origin
The drum has always been a primary tool of communication in every civilisation across the globe. The drum we use is the “Jembe” from western Africa, more specifically the Mandinka area (now Mali-Guinea). In spite of its extreme complexity, it is an instrument which can be learned quickly at a basic level. The rhythm of the drums connects with everyone, without exception. It is easy to imagine your whole organisation transforming into an orchestra in just a few minutes.
Our sessions never fail to work because the metaphorical message comes across clearly and they are the most powerful and natural tool for unifying a group. The professional instruments we use come from “Kangaba”, an arts and craft company from Bamako, Mali, which carries out environmental reforestation as well as socio-cultural programmes.
Our Clients
We work mainly with public institutions and businesses, with SMEs of ten employees as well as every branch of the same multinational company. Generally we work with the Human Resource and Marketing departments.
We apply common sense to our work and we always treat our clients with maximum respect. These values – unfortunately rare nowadays – together with our knowledge and experience are the key to our success.
We also collaborate with consultants who can help your company to improve its HR strategy. By the end everyone is amazed at the extraordinary experience that has taken place. Since the year 2000 we have held hundreds of concerts and performances, and more than 250 business workshops
Sessions
The aim is not to learn how to play the drum, although of course new talents may be discovered during a session. At the beginning of the session chaos, scepticism and a little bit of disbelief typically reign supreme, but within a few minutes the groups are already playing in harmony as if touched by magic. At that point the feeling of satisfaction, enthusiasm and pleasure starts to grow, and with the euphoria of the finale the message is consolidated: the importance of working together towards a goal, with zeal, technique and enjoyment.
We hold teambuilding programmes, seminars, meetings, events, special celebrations, business anniversaries, award ceremonies, product promotion...
Work Sessions
We custom design our sessions according to your aims to achieve concrete results, which go beyond reducing stress and having a good time, to lay down foundations for a new future direction: cohesion between different groups, members of staff and businesses; mutual acceptance between old rivals; overcoming lack of trust; getting to know and value other people, and cementing a feeling of belonging to the same organisation, with the same challenges and goals. We offer programmes for teambuilding, training and team motivation, business development and leadership enhancement. Depending on the type of session that has been programmed, all participants are given the opportunity to demonstrate their capacity for connection with the rest of the group to achieve results that are truly harmonious. The sessions begin without any hierarchies, but in most cases natural team coordinators will spontaneously make themselves known.
The sessions reaffirm self-confidence in the most enjoyable way.
The ZykApO Team
The core of Unibongo is ZykApO, a team of professional percussionists, European trainers and African polyglots who live in the Iberian Peninsula.
With broad cross-disciplinary knowledge and with a desire for constant change and improvement, ZykApO already boasts experience of hundreds of concerts and performances and over 250 sessions in the business world since the year 2000.
ZykApO also organises percussion classes, dance workshops, events for schools, universities, hospitals, prisons, specialist centres, special celebrations, weddings, discos, concerts, festivals and participates in solidarity events for corporate social responsibility and beyond.
Concerts and Performances
ZYKAPO was created in 2005 with the meeting of 3 professional percussionists, Stéphane Sublet and Didier Roch from France and Robert Dokponnou from Benin, who were aficionados of traditional music from the Mandinka region (now Mali-Guinea). In 2008 Ana M'Bengue from Senegal joined the group as a dancer. Communicating in a complex language of percussion, jembes, dunduns, bells, shakers and peuhl flute, ZykApO offers a musical journey of intense colour rooted in traditional African folk music and Maliean and Guinean “Griot”. The music relates tales of nature, animals, people and the sweet dreams of life in western Africa, land of profound emotion and ancestral energy.

ADDITIONAL CONCEPT
ANIMARTE with HERMANN
Creating relational art using fifty, a hundred or more people and paint, “ANIMARTE” is a unique colour experience that transforms employees or guests into artists, as they collaborate in painting a monumental work of art, adding a new dimension to an event.
Creating a giant painting, from 6 to 18 metres squared, experimenting with total freedom of expression, style and technique is already fantastic fun, but to successfully manage the outcome is even better.
The final result is controlled by a system of movable masks which hide and preserve sections of the fabric.
The concept was born in Australia for the "Sydney Esquisse Design Festival 2003". It was called “the TUBE” and won first prize at the festival. Following this, “the TUBE” was invited to the 2004 and 2005 “Art by the Sea” festival in Sydney. In 2005 they did the opening of the summer season in Argeles, France, and in 2007 the “Good Vibes” Festival in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, Australia.
A WORLD OF COLOUR
Colour is a crucial element to the success of the project; the image on the fabric is built around the colours chosen during the design stage. We divide participants into two groups, each one painting with a different colour scheme during one session. A third colour may be added to the design (we will take charge of this), to give more visual impact and to support the theme of the event.
For events staggered over several days, the fabric will be painted by using one colour scheme per day.
Our secret is in knowing beforehand how the painting will look at the end.
First everyone designs together the final look of the painting, in keeping with the theme of the event, the corporate image or whatever is decided. Then all that is needed is to let the creative energy flow.
The artwork resulting from the collaboration remains unpublished and belongs to your company.
VISION
Live music and art encourage generosity, enthusiasm, confidence and passion, representing the most beautiful side of life and allowing us to meet face to face, get closer physically and emotionally to all our peers and create a unique experience with them.
Those who play music or paint are giving us a part of themselves, a gift from their own world, an emotional message that resonates in the deepest part of our hearts. In short, it is a universal communication tool, a dimension of the soul... we believe that the beat of the drums and the beauty of colour have the power to unite the world in harmony.
We know that it is our duty to thank our maestros for everything they share with us, and to get to know another side of their ancestral culture which is so different to the sad images we see on the news.

Translation - English Nobody would come to find me, it was necessary that nobody knew of my journey, not even the most loyal among the survivors, nor the man who was ordered to keep a pistol in the left-luggage office of the Atocha station and to leave the key in a bar, the name of which was entrusted to me on a piece of paper with instructions and schedules, which I immediately disregarded as usual, out of obedience to the fiction that was guiding me like an impulse suspending the laws of gravity and verisimilitude; ever since I agreed to travel to Madrid I was a slow-moving spectre that was pretending it was going to kill a man, and I ventured deep into the lie as if in a jungle of mirages.
The aeroplane was losing height with sudden catastrophic spasms, and the white fog wrapped itself around us, tearing into pieces to reveal far below an ochre landscape of deserts. I heard the click of safety belts as the danger lights came on, the right-hand wing of the plane dipped, almost brushing the citrus-covered peaks of the hills, and I felt in the hollow of my stomach that something irreparable was about to happen to me, felt the imagined sudden agony of those who die inside an aeroplane, the claustrophobia of rarefied air and the sharp pain in the eardrums that one night many years back had paralysed me and had almost driven me crazy when I was flying above the darkness of the forests in France and the pilot removed his headphones and turned to tell me that we had been hit by antiaircraft fire.
Looking at the fog obliterating the time and space of the living on the other side of the oval windows, I recalled the sidelong rays of the reflectors, the irregular crashing din of the propellers, the peremptory sensation of being on the brink of death, in the middle of nowhere, of vanishing without trace in the red trail of a burning plane. But the plane was now bouncing along the landing strip, shuddering as though wild with uncontainable speed and where the fog had been were vertiginous stretches of asphalt criss-crossed with twinkles of blue. Brief spells of drizzle and hail lashed the horizontal spaces of the airport. There was nobody, and I knew that nobody would come, and around me grew an engulfing euphoria of voices, and footsteps and faces, a feeling of danger and abandon. But I continued to imagine that it wasn’t true that I had come to kill a man, calculating at the same time every step of the execution of a man who was waiting for me, dying of loneliness and fear, trembling with cold, awaiting the arrival of a messenger, his saviour, his executioner.

Translation - English Barcelona and SONAR 2009 Holiday Apartment Rentals: A good year
This year Barcelona ranks third in the world as a host city for events. The SONAR music festival has played a major role in strengthening the city’s international influence as a venue for conferences and festivals.
Barcelona’s appeal is underlined by the high quality apartments available to rent for festival-goers. The success of SONAR 2009 has brought a new lease of life for the tourist industry amid difficult economic conditions.
Following several years of uninterrupted growth, Barcelona has experienced a difficult year in 2009 with a general dip in tourism that began in 2007. Prices plummeted by 30% in June, to 85€ per night on average in the hotel sector (Source: europa press).
Holiday apartment occupancy rates soar to 90% during SONAR
However, the Association of Barcelona Tourist Apartments (APARTUR) reported an occupancy rate of 67% in the month of June and 90% during SONAR 2009, demonstrating a sustained demand for holiday apartment rentals during the festival.
“High numbers of festival-goers are still coming; we reached an occupancy rate of 98%. Within a strongly competitive environment and with changing demand this year, we have seen a reduction in the length of stays, which have gone from 6 to 4 nights on average, as well as last minute bookings...” states Eric Eslan of Feelbarcelona.
Last minute bookings have contributed to a 20% price drop in Barcelona holiday apartment rentals.
Clients are making increasingly late bookings to take advantage of last minute offers. This year SONAR visitors booked their holiday rental apartments much later than in 2008.
“Last year, by the month of May, 80% of apartments were booked for SONAR. This year we had to wait until two weeks before the start of the festival to reach our occupancy target of 95%, of which 60% of clients came for SONAR: 15% professionals and 45% festival-goers.”
This delay in bookings led to a price drop of 20% (source: APARTUR) despite a satisfactory occupancy rate and a sustained demand for SONAR.
Apartment rental agencies adapt to the new context.
“The current economic climate requires us to be very reactive and to adapt our prices in anticipation of the change in demand. 2009 isn’t 2008! Working on this assumption, we reduced very early on the minimum length of stay during SONAR from 8 to 5 nights, which meant we only suffered a 4% price drop.”
These figures for 2009 show that SONAR still holds an important place in the events calendar for the months preceding peak season in Barcelona. Despite the difficult economic climate, festival-goers have not given up their passion, and have once again overwhelmingly favoured holiday apartments.
