ProZ.com powwow: Networking and Q&A session

November 16, 2013, 2:30 pm
United KingdomLondonIn personEnglish
The venue for this powwow is the same as in May 2013, near the Telecom Tower:
The King & Queen. 1 Foley Street, London W1P 7LE
This is on the corner of Cleveland Street and Foley Street. See a map here. (if the spot is hard to find, look at the Warren Street Tube symbol, move exactly southwards to Cleveland Street (half way to Oxford Street) and that is the corner with Foley Street.)
Nearest Tube stations: Goodge Street, Regent's Park, Great Portland Street, Euston Square, Warren Street. For public-transport information, see the TfL website. (The present "planned works" timetable shows that there should be no problems in using the Tube to come to this powwow.)
To come to the powwow when you're in the pub: cross the downstairs bar room and go through the door marked "private" or "function room". The upstairs room has been booked from 2.30 pm until 6 pm.
As usual, the owner of the pub lets us use the room free of charge but he would like each of us to donate 1 GBP to the collection that he makes for a charity, usually Macmillan cancer-support. I'll be there with a collecting envelope!

If somebody would like to give a talk on a translation or interpreting-related subject or suggest a theme for the powwow, please let me know. If not, I would like to organise the event in a way similar to my previous powwows: at about 4 pm we'll have a sit-down session of about half an hour in which any of you can ask a question and the others can then answer or discuss the subject. This was a successful idea on the previous occasions where it was tried.
The rest of the time is for general networking and drinking (drinks are available from the bar downstairs).

Is it possibile to sign up to be notified of future powwows in London? Nov 15, 2013

Hello all,
Unfortunately I can't make it to this one, but would like to be kept in the loop and have another chance in the futureicon_smile.gif Anybody knows if it's possible to get automatic notifications if a new powwow gets organised in a city of choice?
Thanks!

Quite nice! Nov 16, 2013

Martina, powwows are not organized very often, so if you check http://www.proz.com/powwows/ once a week, you'll know about the next one eventually.
This one was quite nice, a bit quiet first, but then the conversation became more vivid. I enjoyed it, even though I was late (sorry!) and left earlier. Looking forward to seeing this powwow's pictures and to attending the next similar event.

Another great PowWow, thanks Oliver Nov 17, 2013

yes it started off a little quietly, but pretty soon got lively and interesting! There was some great exchange of ideas & experiences, also some fun & laughter - which are often missing from the rather solitary profession of freelance translating. I am absolutely looking forward to the next one. m@
