French term

conduite des installations de production

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial relating to oxygen enrichment at a steel mill
From a term in a contract between a company that provides oxygen to a steel mill. Here is the full context:

My proposed translation:

Description of TCO Action n°1: The aim of TCO N°1 is to improve productivity of blast furnace n°2 at the XXXX during the shutdown of blast furnace n°l for 10-yearly maintenance which is scheduled for the 27th of March 2017 until the 25th of April 2017, through the "discretionary" increase of the pure oxygen content of the oxygen flow to blast furnace n°2, (--) beyond XXXX commitment under the contract for the supply of Oxygen, Nitrogen, Argon and Compressed Air to XXXX which was signed by the Parties on the 27th of March 2006 (hereafter referred to as the "XXXX"),

Does the end phrase simply mean that the company needs to set up a specific production facility to enrich the oxygen?

Discussion

Schtroumpf Feb 16:
Aidan Honeyman (asker) Feb 16:
@ Schtroumpf - deux sociétés différentes
Emmanuella Feb 15:
Mpoma Feb 14:
operation? @Phil ... yes, it could be a mistake. But I think a reading where mis en oeuvre applies to conduite seems perfectly OK.

I'm not sure I can really see the problem ... doesn't it just mean "operation of the facilities specifically implemented by ..."? (So "operation is implemented", with no building of facilities). I can't really see that you've applied the final part involving mise en oeuvre anywhere in your proposed translation.

PS it's "hereinafter". The Hereafter is something slightly different. (Seriously, you can use "hereafter" in ordinary speech, but it means "in the future", not "in the remainder of this document").
Aidan Honeyman (asker) Feb 14:
Bashiqa, I think they mean increase the oxygen content in the furnace then? They said in the contract that they wanted to reduce costs by : limitant l’approvisionnement en coke au profit du charbon pulvérisé. Does increasing the oxygen content in the furnace mean they can use less coke and replace it with cheaper pulverised coal?
Aidan Honeyman (asker) Feb 14:
Bashiqa, you worked in the steel industry? I wish I could just ask for clarification on some of the issues I have had while translating this
Aidan Honeyman (asker) Feb 14:
The text is littered with mistakes which is why translating it has been a complete nightmare
Emmanuella Feb 14:
philgoddard Feb 14:
It says "mise en oeuvre" where I'd expect "mises", to agree with "installations". Or it could be agreeing with "conduite". This could be deliberate, or a mistake.
Bashiqa Feb 14:
@ Asker You can`t enrich oxygen as such, but can increase the quantity supplied by the plant. Blast firnaces use an awful lot of oxygen to increase the working temperature and burn off impurities. At least they did when I was an apprentice in the steel industry.

operation (operational control)

requiring the operation by (Company name) of the production facilities

agree philippe vandevivere : Definitely the right answer : ... requiring an operation of the production plants by ... , specifically implemented by ...

Thank you!
agree Schtroumpf : Tout simplement.

neutral liz askew : *****requiring an operation of the production plants by*** sounds stilted to me adn unnatural

requiring that company A run the production plant specially provided by company B

is how I read it.

You have AM and AL for sure. Whether either or both of these are company A and company B I know not. At any rate, as far as I can make out, AL's gas production plant serving AM's steel plant is somehow being boosted to provide more of one of the gases required. This appears to involve special plant, but it is not clear if the manufacturer/operator of the 'basic' gas plant, AL, is also providing the special 'booster' plant or whether it is a third party. Nor is it clear, with the anonymity of the companies A and B, if AL or an unnamed third party, be it the provider of said plant or yet another party, is operating said 'booster plant', or whether AM is to run the booster plant (which I doubt since AM does not seem to be operating the 'basic' gas plant to start with).

a level of control of production facilities

'..nécessitant une conduite par (one Company name) des installations de production /et/spécifiquement mise en œuvre par (the same or a different Company name) pour permettre l’enrichissement en teneur oxygène.'

'calling for a *level of* vs. operational control of production facilities by ... and specifically implemented / deployed by ... to enable / facilitate oxygen enrichment.'

The translation can also go a different way if the second Company name is different - unclear from the question,

You can`t enrich oxygen as such -> surely means enrich *with* or using oxygen.

Does increasing the oxygen content in the furnace mean they can use less coke and replace it with cheaper pulverised coal?' Perhaps post as a separate question.

Otherwise, I - who used to clerk, albeit a long time ago, in a carbon rod, kiln-manufacture and crucible factory in London - am unsure how production facilities can be 'implemented', so agree with Emm. that it refers to the 'la conduite', but syntactically without the conjunction of 'e' could refer to 'production'.
Example sentence:

The purpose of production control is to balance the output of a facility to guarantee that the specifications of the products being produced are met.

Production control is the process of overseeing, managing, and controlling the tasks involved in producing goods or services.

Sorry
The title should be 'management of production facilities'.
Example sentence:

Building an overpass or road bridge is a complex and multidimensional process involving equipment and materials from various entities.

Earth movers, cranes, drainage and sewers, safety components, gravel, cement, and large objects such as steel girders must all be transported to the site according to a tight schedule and specific budget.
