New design -> internet breaks down Thread poster: Martin Schmurr
|
Since the \"easier to load\" design became default, internet breaks down each time I post a KudoZ answer (the answer does arrive at ProZ.com. but I have to do a forced exit). When opening some pages, like this \"post a topic\" one, it regularly says \"Script Error\". I also notice the home page is slower in loading. Has anyone had similar experiences? I have a Power Mac G4 with OS 9.0 and use IE 5.1.
Greetings from Udine

Martin,
At the request of a large number of members, I added drop-down menus to the top-level site navigation in the new design. (This added about 2k to each page view, as well as a one-time download of about 8k for the javascript and style sheets. Not quite as light-weight as at the time of the original announcement, but not too bad either.)
Could you elaborate on the problems you are having? In particular, would you post the specific \"Script Error\... See more Martin,

Could you elaborate on the problems you are having? In particular, would you post the specific \"Script Error\" message that you receive? Do I understand correctly that you don\'t experience any of these problems when using the old design?

Dear Martin, if you have sensed the slowdown in the recent days it may be due the earthquake in Algeria which has damaged the fiberoptic cables (SMW3) between Marocco and Italy. These are key to reach international network. I believe that they'll fix this within a week or so. In Turkey the connection speed dropped nearly 60 percent. We have no access to the msn page for days now.

Athens,24/05/2003 (ANA)
The Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE) internet provider OTENET began to gain access again to the international internet web on Friday, following the loss the Flag, SMW2, SMW3, Colombus2 and other communications cables that are traversing the Mediterranean.
OTENET was unable to provide services for its clients on Thursday due to the earthquake in Algeria, that damaged the aforementioned international cables
Other internet providers did not lose access and continued to provide regular services to their clients. ▲ Collapse | | | Thierry LOTTE Local time: 19:17 Member (2001) English to French + ... A conservative who switched to the "New Deal" | May 29, 2003 |
I am afraid to say that, at first glance, I really didnt'like the "new design" in ProZ.
Now, I am compelled to admit that this had been a "great Job" from Henry and the ProZ coders.
It is faster and the "design is more "user friendly" than before.
But, please, do not hesitate to bring your contribution (this means also "critics") to the matter : this means "future improvements" for all of us (KudoZ users)
Cordially,
Thierry | |

I forgot to say something :
- I belong to the ones (conservative) who tried to make it difficult.
- Now I do express my best thanks to Jason Grimes, who, in spite of critics, made it possible...
Cannot imagine anymore "ProZ" with its "Old design". | | | Thank you, Thierry | May 30, 2003 |
Thank you for your kind words, Thierry. We're trying very hard to be responsive to the needs of the community. I really appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions; your contributions help make ProZ.com a better place.
