Hi everyone,
The message below just left me speechless. Apologies for the rant, but I've had it with job offers about helping XYZ improve their AI. I have been receiving such offers from the "big players" that gloat about how wonderful the state of localization is right now and the bright future ahead, but their offers are usually around $10-12.

The message below just left me speechless. Apologies for the rant, but I've had it with job offers about helping XYZ improve their AI. I have been receiving such offers from the "big players" that gloat about how wonderful the state of localization is right now and the bright future ahead, but their offers are usually around $10-12.
I can't help but think Proz should have a system in place to prevent such messages from reaching paying members. Who in their right mind will pay for a subscription for the privilege of receiving such offers?
And please, let's not talk about how someone somewhere will see $4 per hour as a gift from heaven. A professional translator will have spent a considerable amount of money to be able to offer professional services (and this specific company requires at least 6 years of experience!).
If Proz really believes they have no responsibility over the offers made through their (paid!) platform it is definitely time for me to go (after 20 years of membership).

It's certainly an exploitative gig disguised as a linguistic job. They want to train AI cheaply while undervaluing human expertise. I agree that it doesn't have a place on Proz. Does ProZ need to step up in this instance? Not sure. Caveat lector, and all that, as the OP has demonstrated.
I'm pretty sure that Proz already vets the jobs it allows to be posted. I have seen some job posts taken down. There are certainly more that never appear in the first place. And scammy AI gig... When AI first appeared with prompt writing/evaluation jobs (about 1-2 years ago), the same type of job paid $40/hr, and now it’s knocked down to $4/hr. I did some of those at the beginning, was quite easy to reach $1.6k/week. It seems like now there are too many people in the chain who want their cut of the cake.

The core ProZ offer does not feel relevant to my business any longer.

I had membership last year and I cancelled it. This website, as well as half of the internet, is full with scammers, imposters, spammers, so paying membership for me is like paying racket to someone. When I had membership I could see the IPs that have visited my profile, and guess what, the same IPs are trying to break into my email. Microsoft account has the same thing for viewing IPs, you know. And also the true job offers for my language pair are rare. ▲ Collapse | | | Baran Keki Türkiye Local time: 03:43 Member English to Turkish
I received this email from Proz yesterday. Never mind the "AI training" bit, just check out the name of the company. It says it all.
Upwork (the bottom-feeders' paradise) is asking fellow bottom-feeders through the good offices of Proz.com to help create an environment in which more bottom-feeders can join their ranks and the notion, even the memory, of "decent work with decent pay" is all but destroyed.
Thank you Proz!
