Dear Colleagues,
Do agencies accept non-formal methods of payment such as cryptocurrencies? As I have had the experience, normally PayPal is the method they offer. But, do you think whether they accept if I negotiate? Are they banned by law from doing so? What are the law and regulations in your country in this regard?

It is totally up to the translator what type of payment he/she accepts. In my case, I accept payments by bank transfer (mainly eurozone) or through Wise, TransferMate or Revolut. No cheques, no Paypal and no cryptocurrencies…

There are specialized agencies in crypto-friendly jurisdictions that have no problem paying you in cryptocurrency; if the right network is used, the payment fees are very low – especially compared to PayPal. However, your typical "all languages, all fields" agencies usually don't offer crypto payments. They choose the payment method that works best for THEM, and since many translators are afraid to negotiate (or even to insist on OUR), they don't have to go the extra mile...
