When I tackle a translating challenge, it is not in the least because I yearn to reveal to the poor deprived non-speakers of language X the hidden structure and meaning of some intricate passage in language X -- no, for me, translating is simply the sheer joy of trying to do something deeply paradoxical: namely, to carry off in medium 2, radically different from medium 1, some virtuoso stunt that someone else once carried off with great aplomb in medium 1. That's all, no more. It's just a game, an exercise in creativity, and a challenge that, if met with sufficient flair, provides a wonderful esthetic reward. Douglas Hofstadter, in Le Ton Beau de Marot.
Native French speaker, after graduating from Paris La Sorbonne in Maths, Linguistics and Psychology in 1979, I have been working in the IT industry Software, Professional Services, Outsourcing, Telco, Retail, etc. for twenty years, holding operational positions as a Software Engineer, Project Leader, Sales Engineer, Free-lance Recruiter, Training Manager, Marketing Director, European Human Resources Director and CEO.
In 1999, I moved to London and decided to make a living out of my passion and to become a free-lance translator, with a strong bias towards IT, HR and Marketing arenas. I am also a seasoned and sound translator of any business, technical, or marketing material, as well as in literature and leisure activities (films, websites, etc.).

Over the years, I indeed gained a huge experience in these realms. I am also a Georges Brassens' fan. My motto: Mourir pour des idées, d'accord mais de mort lente. If you'd like to hear the whole song (in French), just click on the link.
