Bio

I have an academic background in biomedicine, as I hold a bachelor's degree in biomedical science. During these studies, I did lab work both at the faculty and in a hospital. Due to the mixed nature of a degree that included subjects related to both biology and medicine, I have comprehensive knowledge of fields that range from molecular biology to public health. At the end of this degree, I did an internship in biological anthropology and wrote a bachelor’s thesis in the field of the history of medicine. In my thesis, which revolved around the topic of gender, I studied the evolution of the paradigm of sexual dimorphism in medicine since the 19th century and how the public discourse regarding the alleged differences in behaviour between men and women has been affected by unproved or irrelevant differences in the brain.

My interest in the science of human life has always kept pace with my love of languages, but at one point it was outrun, and I decided to train as a translator. I now also hold a bachelor’s degree in translation, interpreting and applied languages, and I’m currently doing a master’s degree in specialized translation. For my bachelor’s thesis, I took a practical approach to compare how medical translation is affected by the level of specialization of the source text. Moreover, I did an internship at UOC’s Agència Virtual de Traducció which allowed me to spend my last term translating, proofreading and post-editing medical texts from English to Spanish and Catalan. The content of the texts was diverse, but the most recurrent fields were cardiology and nephrology. I also volunteered in trials to determine the efficiency of some machine translation software by post-editing less specialized texts of varied nature.

I worked as an English teacher for more than 5 years before I became a freelance translator, and I’ve been involved in volunteering projects for 10 years. My other passions are literature, education, the audiovisual arts, and dance.
