Source text - Italian Cara Johanna, tu come pacifista sei impegnata a favore della riconciliazione tra ebrei e palestinesi. Al momento che strategie vedi per raggiungere quest’obiettivo? Come si riesce a superare l’odio di decenni?
Innanzitutto la mia speranza nella riconciliazione si basa sulla mia certezza che il 90% delle persone, israeliani e palestinesi, desiderano convivere in pace o farebbero di tutto per realizzare questo loro desiderio. In fin dei conti la base dell’esistenza della gente comune a lungo andare dipende dalla pace.
Allo stesso tempo comunque le persone provano una paura e un odio incommensurabili. L’altro sembra un essere vendicativo, aggressivo e violento. Sono storie che sicuramente conoscerete. E i media e i politici non fanno che confermarle per creare un atteggiamento difensivo sempre più radicale.
La cosa che mi ha colpito maggiormente, quando sono andata lì, era che non ci sono spazi dove incontrarsi, scambiare le proprie idee e conoscersi. In diverse situazioni sono stata io – che venivo da fuori e non c’entravo nulla – a fungere da mediatrice tra israeliani e palestinesi. Roba da matti! Io posso mettermi in contatto con persone in Cisgiordania o in Israele in qualsiasi momento, ma tra loro, che stanno vicini, non c’è alcun punto di contatto. Anche i musulmani in Israele hanno pochi contatti con gli ebrei. Ma ho notato che entrambe le parti sono curiose di sapere come vivono gli altri.

Avant tout, mon espoir en la réconciliation repose sur la certitude que 90 % des personnes, Israéliennes comme Palestiniennes, désirent vivre en paix ou feraient tout pour réaliser leur souhait. En fin de compte, depuis toujours l’existence des citoyens ordinaires dépend de la paix.
À la fois cependant, les personnes éprouvent une peur et une haine incommensurables. L’autre semble un être vindicatif, agressif et violent. Ce sont des histoires que vous connaîtrez sûrement. Et les médias et les politiciens ne font que les confirmer afin de créer une attitude défensive de plus en plus radicale.
Quand je suis partie là-bas, ce qui m’a le plus touché, c’est l’absence d’espaces pour se rencontrer, échanger ses idées et se connaître. À plusieurs reprises, c’est moi – qui venais de l’étranger et qui n’avais rien à voir avec tout cela – qui servais de médiatrice entre Israéliens et Palestiniens. C’est quand même fou ! Moi, je peux à n’importe quel moment contacter des gens en Cisjordanie ou en Israël mais entre eux, vivant à proximité, il n’existe aucun point de contact. Même les musulmans en Israël ont peu de contact avec les juifs. Cependant, j’ai remarqué que, des deux côtés, ils sont curieux de savoir la manière dont vivent les autres.

Source text - English Two months earlier, Ahmad, a Dane of Afghan descent, had been about about as far away from an ISIS-controlled prison in Syria as one could imagine.
The 22-year-old medical student had been at the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen on this lovely summer day in late June when his phone rang.
“If you really want to help, now is the time,” the caller, a friend, told him.
A couple of twin sisters in his friend’s family had disappeared.
The girls, whose family hail from Somalia, had been living in Britain for the past 10 years. Hard-working students at a school in Manchester’s Beswick area, the twins loved fashion, selfies and shopping.
But one morning in late June, when their parents came to wake them up for school, the girls had disappeared. When the twins didn't turn up at school, the parents rang the police.
Under the cover of darkness, the 16-year-olds had apparently snuck out of the family’s red brick villa in the Chorlton-cum-Hardy suburb of Manchester and travelled to Turkey – possibly into the Syrian war zone.

Mais un matin de la fin du mois de juin, alors que leurs parents venaient les réveiller pour aller à l’école, elles avaient disparu. Les jumelles ne s’étant pas présentées à l’école, les parents ont appelé la police.
À la faveur de la nuit, les adolescentes de 16 ans s’étaient apparemment glissées hors de la maison de la famille, une villa en brique rouge de Chorlton-cum-Hardy, un quartier mancunien. Elles s’étaient envolées vers la Turquie, faisant probablement route vers la zone de guerre syrienne.
