Spanish to English: Potassium levels measured in whole blood vs. in serum General field: Medical Detailed field: Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)
Translation - English Potassium in an intracellular positive ion, which plays a fundamental role in the transmission of neuromuscular pulses. Its alterations could affect the muscular contractibility, thus conditioning the myocardial function and the life of the patient. Due to the above-mentioned statement, it becomes essential that the actual potassium levels in blood truly reflect the patient's reality and that these levels should not have conditionings of any kind.
The technological advancements in the lab environment allow us to measure the potassium levels in blood with different types of samples, for instance whole blood and serum.
Serum is the substance obtained after the blood has coagulated, furthermore the understanding that when blood coagulates in vitro, it causes a certain degree of lysis of the elements contained therein, which triggers the release of intracellular potassium. The extent of this process is directly related to the recount of platelets.

Experience
Years of experience: 39. Registered at ProZ.com: Jul 2012.
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was brought up bilingually, namely in English and Spanish. I studied German at a bilingual School in this city and graduated from High School. Thereafter I went to Germany to study mechanical engineering at the Bremen Technical College, earning my Diploma in this field in 1984. I became interested in translating as early as 1978 and started then obviously using a typewriter.
My experience As from 1985 I was employed in the Automotive Industry in Argentina, Brazil, South Africa and the United States. Alongside with my jobs as process and product engineer, I still gained experience in translation, mainly due to my exposure with the technical processes involved, using English, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
My fields of work
At the present time, I am teaching business studies for IGCSE Cambridge certificates, A and AS levels in Secondary School. Other fields of expertise include: Hybrid vehicle technology (trucks in particular). Physics & Chemistry, Physics, IT and Geology. I am familiar with most CAT-tools, however the one best suited for my needs is OmegaT, which in fact is a cross platform CAT tool and reads the .tmx files format from other tools in the market, such as TRADOS. I encourage you to visit my profile and check my CV and recommendations from past clients.
