Source text - English Termination of the contract of employment
A contract of employment may be terminated, other than on the initiative of the employer, in the following circumstances:
• unilaterally by the worker;
• by mutual agreement of the parties;
• on the death of the worker, or that of the employer when it results in the employer's activities coming to an end;
• on expiry of the agreed term, on account of bankruptcy or liquidation of the employer, and
• on the worker's retirement.
Also, the employer may unilaterally terminate the contract of employment with a valid reason for such termination, connected with the conduct of the worker, or on economic grounds owing to lack or shortage of work, or force majeure. In fact, he/she may terminate the contract of employment on any grounds, or with no grounds whatsoever provided he/she gives notice and makes a severance payment.

El contrato de trabajo puede extinguirse por iniciativa del empleador o de las siguientes formas:
• De forma unilateral por parte del trabajador;
• De mutuo acuerdo entre las partes;
• A causa del fallecimiento del trabajador o del empleador, cuando esto último implique el cese de sus actividades;
• Por la finalización del plazo acordado, por declaración de bancarrota o liquidación del empleador, y
• Por jubilación del trabajador.
Además, el empleador podrá rescindir el contrato de trabajo fundado en justa causa, vinculada a la conducta del trabajador; por razones económicas debido a falta o reducción de trabajo, o en eventos de caso fortuito o fuerza mayor. De hecho, el empleador podrá rescindir el contrato de trabajo bajo cualquier fundamento, o sin fundamentos en lo absoluto siempre que lo notifique debidamente y efectúe el pago por indemnización.
