I would like to receive job notifications for all jobs Thread poster: Konstantin Kisin

Dear Henry & Co,
I am aware that currently the job notifications I receive are filtered out according to my fields of specialisation and other factors. I understand your reasons for doing this...however, I do not wish to receive notifications of all jobs in order to quote on them. I think it is benefitial to know what sort of jobs are going in your language pairs, who is providing them etc etc. On top of that, it is extremely frustrating to find that a job you would have applied for... I think it is benefitial to know what sort of jobs are going in your language pairs, who is providing them etc etc. On top of that, it is extremely frustrating to find that a job you would have applied for was not e-mailed to you because the job poster didn't post it in the right category (while writing a very detailed description which makes it the perfect job for you) or because you yourself forgot to put a category as your field of specialisation.
I understand that the job poster can impose restrictions on the sort of translator that can apply (member/user, native in X, specialises in Y etc). Surely, this is sufficient?
I don't really understand the reason for being denied this information. If the purpose of this filter is to make sure we don't receive spam then please create another set of filters for us spam-lovers leaving everyone else safe from irrelevant jobs.
Thanks,

I just checked my notifications page a few days ago and I noticed that you can set email notifications for all fields (I hope this was indeed for jobs, not for KudoZ), as far as I remember. I hope this means that we receive all alerts, even ones in fields we have not declared. | | | Konstantin Kisin United Kingdom Local time: 04:01 Russian to English + ... Hi Elvira,
Thanks for your reply. In all my language pairs I have "all fields" selected and all the job-type boxes ticked. I can't find it right now but there is a page somewhere where it is clearly stated that despite ticking "all fields" you won't receive all the jobs because Proz.com filters them out according to other factors like geographic location etc.

That is true, but just to be clear, ProZ.com is not doing any filtering. Job posters can restrict quoting by country, for example. We do not impose any restrictions of our own.
For informational purposes, Konstantin, is the ability to view the jobs on the site not sufficient to meet your needs? | |

Thanks for your reply, Henry.
Well, one would like to see things as they happen. On top of that, the issue of posters choosing incorrect categories for their jobs remains.
Is posters' ability to limit who can quote on jobs not sufficient to meet their needs? | | | Anil Goyal India Local time: 09:31 English to Hindi + ... What about agencies? | Feb 10, 2006 |
I have been discussing a similar issue as a Service Request. The issue is that the Job Posters are increasingly restricting the jobs to native speakers only and I, in principle, agree that they should. However, for agencies this is a problem. On ProZ you cannot have more than 2 native languages associated with your profile. We, as an agency, provide translation in more than 40 languages, all by native speakers. However, we are denied the option to bid (except for those 2 languages) because we DO... See more I have been discussing a similar issue as a Service Request. In my opinion, ProZ should have a different profile for agencies where they can declare more native languages based on the profiles of their translators.

An excellent point, Anil. We are planning to distinguish companies more clearly with revisions to our profiles in a coming release. | | | Anil Goyal India Local time: 09:31 English to Hindi + ... Good news Henry... | Feb 12, 2006 |
...but till that time, do we have a way out?
