MemoQ 2015 will not launch: Another instance of memoq is already running Thread poster: Michael Kazakov

I have MemoQ 2015 installed on a Windows 10 Home edition laptop.
Occasionally when I try to launch the program, it will not run and display error "Another instance of memoq is already running".
When I open the Task Manager I do not see any MemoQ processes running.
The only solution is to logoff and login again.
Is there any other way to solve it? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Best,

Michael I would have thought that is a perfect question for Kilgray Support, and one that reasonably proficient users like me are highly unlikely to be able to help you with. | | | psicutrinius Spain Local time: 13:53 Spanish to English + ... There is a workaround... | Dec 14, 2016 |
...though I do not see why it should happen in the first place.
If you open the Task manager and go to Apps, you will see that memoQ is there. Just click it and, lo and behold, memoQ reappears.
This is better than logging off and on again. Still, it is irritating and an "unnecesary" nuisance.
I use translator pro 64 bit, fully updated to (right now) 7.8.160. | | | Background processes | Dec 15, 2016 |
I have this problem too, when you open the task manager you won't see it in Apps, but you probably will in the second list below (Background processes). You have to end the task then open MemoQ again. | |

Anthony, Marcel and Katherine,
Thanks for your suggestions!
In the end it turned out there was a "General error" message from MemoQ. The message was displayed in the background behind my opened windows. The weird part is that Task Manager did not show any running MemoQ process.
I think I will know better next time it happens. Thanks for your tips! ![](https://cfcdn.proz.com/images/bb/smiles/icon_smile.gif) | | | Mario Chavez (X) Local time: 07:53 English to Spanish + ... Background messages | Dec 17, 2016 |

Michael, it's not just memoQ displaying those background error messages but many other Windows programs do the same thing: an alert that never reaches the user because it's poorly designed. Why the extra memoQ process does not show in Task Manager is beyond my computer literacy, I'm afraid.
I'm just staying away from Windows 10 for now.
