Does anyone know if there is an auto-correct function in Studio 2011, where misspelled words are automatically corrected as you type, similar to the functionality in Word? | | | EHI (X) Local time: 16:34
No, I don't think there is.
There are the Auto-Text and Auto-Substitution features, but they are something different.
Actually I'm quite happy this feature is missing.
In Word etc. it is quicker to "auto-correct" difficult words than to learn their correct spelling.

I am presently discovering Trados (2011 version), and I am very disappointed in the lack of auto-correct. The thing is, I use it extensively in Word for two things:
1) Not having to use impractical keyboard shortcuts to type characters like "œ" in "œuf", "bœuf" or "œuvre" ("chef-d'œuvre", "main-d'œuvre", etc.). I translate into French, of course.
2) Replacing long sequences of words; for instance, when I have to type a name like "ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Commerce international", I only type "maffci", and voilà!
I know about the Auto-Suggest feature, but since I just started using Trados, my database is not big enough to set that up. They say it should take about 6 months before I have enough segments for that. So, in the meantime, a simple manually set auto-correct would be great... and the lack of it is very annoying. | | | AutoCorrect for Studio | May 31, 2013 |
HI,
This does come up from time to time, so I thought I'd share how to use AutoHotkey to achieve a similar affect and then have this capability for every application you work in : http://wp.me/p2xDjK-oR
It obviously lacks the ability to automatically add new misspellings but perhaps it's a good starting point.

Dear SDL Support
As your new version also has come, is there any update regarding Auto Correct which is provided by SDL App Store.
Thanks | | |
Hi,
There is no AutoCorrect in Studio 2014 either. But the aforementioned AutoHotkey solution does still work and you have the added advantage of being able to use this solution in any application you like.

Basically I work with Hindi Language pair.
It seems AHK doesn't support Unicode as in terms of INPUT,
i.e. ::1::12345 (here 1 is input and 12345 is output)
here if character/word placed between Colons [ ::1:: ] is an English character/word, then it gets activated
If if character/word placed between Colons [ ::1:: ] is an Unicode/Hindi character/word, then it doesn't get activated

I use MSWord auto-correct heavily. I translate a lot of patents. The same words are repeated endlessly, so by saving them in auto-correct, I maintain consistency while gaining speed.
SDL2014 is so over-engineered, it's much slower and more cumbersome to use that good old TagEditor or WorkBench.
I'm very disappointed in this CAT tool. I dislike it very much.
I'm definitely not purchasing any new products from them. I'll move on to something that does not slow me down or force me to work as though I were working in a big Japanese company on massive volumes of programming manuals. It's just me. | | | Spiros Doikas Local time: 17:34 Member (2002) English to Greek + ... | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Auto-correct function in Trados Studio 2011 TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
