Replacing double spaces in Studio 2014 Thread poster: Spiros Doikas

When I try to find/replace double spaces in Studio it also matches tag content, deleting it when I go ahead with the replacement. I tried also with a regex:
\s\s
But had the same effect. Any ideas?
Checking Paul's articles did not help:

If you try to lock tag content, perhaps tags are not deleted when you find/replace double spaces...

It will not delete them, but it will still match the tags and give the message "protected tags cannot be edited".
I also tried to find a regex in the editor to delete trailing spaces (extra spaces at end of segment). This expression seemed (sometimes) to match them:
\s+$
However, afterwards there was no way to delete the space.

I think it would be a good idea if one could create a series of Find/Replace expressions and run them in a batch (and even export/import them), as it can be done with the TM. Also, this functionality could be an extension of the QA, so, instead of just finding all the double spaces etc, it could fix them with a click, rather than having manually to go over each and every one of them?
Does it make sense? ▲ Collapse

I can't help you with a finished translation, seems you need to search and fix one at a time, however I do recomend to use the verification function that will allow you to detect all those errors while translating and fix it as it occurs.

But when one reviews (someone else's) translation then that is not an option.

Yes, I see your problem. But, you could search for a period followed by a trailing space at the end of segment:
\. $
and then replace with just the period:
.
This would at least catch the most commonly left space (after a period).

Does not work for me (appears to match only period and end of segment).
Also, trying to replace it gives: Segment start/end cannot be deleted.

Have you tried ^32^32?
Matches nothing. Tried also with single ^32 and still no matches.

I find that when I get that error message, Studio stops behaving properly and doesn't recognise any find strings at all.
I have to close Studio and re-open it to "reset" F&R behaviour.
Use a third-party QA tool | Dec 21, 2014 |

Let's face it: if there were a way to do it in Studio, Paul F. would already have chimed in and told you how to do it. Since he hasn't, you can probably safely assume it can't be done.
Your best bet would therefore be to use a third-party QA tool like ApSIC Xbench, Verifika, QA Distiller etc.

As far as I know I cannot run batch replace with ApSIC Xbench. My favourite tool for batch replace is Search and Replace.
I also tried the... hidden Sdl.Utilities.BatchSearchReplace.exe but it has the same issues (selecting tag content too).
ErrorSpy does automatic (reversible) corrections (this is what I would want from a future version of Studio QA).
Verifika seems to deal correctly with tags and spaces:
