Brazilian translator known primarily for Shakespeare's translations.

Famous translators who come to mind are Gregory Rabassa (mentioned already), Vladimir Nabokov, Samuel Putnam, Harriet de Onis. A glance at famous translators on the Internet reminds me that a number of great writers were also translators.
I also admire the contributions of Eugene Nida.
For my thesis, I studied 32 published translations from Portuguese to English, and I found that a number of them were excellent.
