Hello all,

My teenage daughter wants to practice her German and have some lessons in a school in Germany but she doesn't want to go to Germany alone and stay at the school's offered accommodation. We are thinking of going to Germany together and rent a flat; I can work while she goes to a language school until the afternoon and then we will spend the rest of the day together.

I've searched on the internet and language schools for teenagers offer classes plus accommodation; I couldn't find any that offers just classes and I wouldn't like her to go to a class with adults.

Do you know of any schools that would suit my case? Do you have any advice? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Lilia

Why Germany? Mar 29, 2011

Austria can be just as good. The university of Klagenfurt offers summer courses in German as a foreign language, accommodation shouoln't be too difficult to find. The course partciipants are generally young; although I don't think they actually exclude adults, very few actually attend, as far as I remember. They also have a social programme for the afternoons that is very young-person focussed.

You can book a German course at these institutes without accommodation. People who attend the courses there are usually young. The town is lovely and it is near French and Swiss border. I bet your daughter will like it here.

A teenager alone Mar 29, 2011

Hi Evangelia,

Please consider again sending her alone. It will be a beautiful experience and a great opportunity to grow up! I did it many times as a teenager and after the first difficult impact, I have always had a great time and I still have very nice memories and friends. It won't be the same if you are with her.

Thank you all for your answers and information.

@David. Sure, Austria and Switzerland are also good. I will check Klagenfurt.
@ Chosana khopkhun kha. This is what I wanted, thanks. I will also check with Goethe Institut here in Athens.
@ Mariella. I know exactly what you mean But it's not me who wants to go with her; it's her who is afraid of going alone. I agree that it would be a great experience. I will
