Stelb.

Swedish to English Social Sciences History
Written at the top of a document (kammarråds frihetsbrev), dated at Stockholm, 8 July 1629: "Copia af Stelb. Cammerådz Frijhetz Breff på halfua utlagorna af Prästegäldet Tryserum..." The following document concerns an exemption from half the annual taxes, granted to the parish vicar of Tryserum.

The meaning of the abbreviation "Stelb." is unclear to me. Any suggestions?

Welb. sounds good I should think Welb. stands for "Välboren", signifying that the Kammarråd belongs to the nobility. Perhaps simply translate as "Noble".

@ Agneta It's possible that it is "Welb." but I can't imagine any other possibilities.

Handwriting? Are you certain that it says "Stelb." - 17th century handwriting can be hard to decipher. Any other interpretations possible?

Noble

If the reading is Welb. not Stelb. the full word should be Välborne - litterally "well born" but the honorific used for one of the lower rungs of nobility in the Riddarhuset. Next step up is Högvälborne.
