Japanese term

判定部

Japanese to English Science Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
例:試薬が満杯かどうかを判定する判定部

I often see 判定部 is translated as "judgment unit", but is this really correct?
I feel something like "determination unit" is more suitable.

Steven Smith Sep 11, 2014:
Depends on your context In research on immunoassay test plates I have seen 'reading area' used in original English product information for the part corresponding to 判定部 in Japanese products.

単に判定するだけならmonitoring unitでも良いかもしれませんね。

MEASUREMENT MONITORING
Colour indication of sample analysis
Possibility of monitoring the reaction in real time
Reagent volume monitoring
Informative reports on ongoing analyzer status

Judgment authority

In my opinion 判定する refers to "to determine"and 判定部means "judgment authority" or similarly it can be expressed as "judgment cell" / "judgment section"
Example sentence:

試薬が満杯かどうかを判定する判定部

Judgment authority to detemine whether the reagent is full or short
