Querschädel

Not for points German to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings report
Can anyone give me some insight as to what this word is in English? The whole sentence in German for context is:

Ein Querschädel setzt sich durch: Nach dem Geistesblitz mit dem Klappmesser und den Holzresten wären andere Teenager wieder zum Alltag übergegangen
Change log

May 22, 2014 08:43: Steffen Walter changed "Field (specific)" from "General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters" to "Idioms / Maxims / Sayings"

May 22, 2014 14:03: Johanna Timm, PhD changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Steffen Walter, Susanne Schiewe, Johanna Timm, PhD

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Eleanore Strauss May 23, 2014:
BrigitteHilgner and writeaway I totally agree with you.
Pigheaded or stubborn would appear to be the best definition - especially given the context.
mill2 May 22, 2014:
also, more context would help What is the story with the Klappmesser, etc. and what happened next? This would shed light on what nuance is intended.
BrigitteHilgner May 22, 2014:
Why "not-for-points"? Why are you unwilling to allocate points to the person whose answer you chose? It is a nice way to say thank you to people who took the trouble to enter an answer or even did some research on your behalf.
Moreover, there are a number of online dictionaries you might want to consult first. For example:

I get the impression that this is more about lateral thinking or inventiveness than being obstinate.
