Btw, "squirt" was the first word that came to my mind too. What's a techy word for squirt?

Context? It might help if we knew what kind of equipment is being dealt with here?

I'm pretty sure it means water (etc.) that may squirt out of an overflow, as, for instance, in a water heater as the water expands when heated, and so spills out of some kind of vent provided for this purpose; this will usually be at high level, whereas of course the 'purges' are likely to be drains that may be at low level.
