Danish term

smarkventil

Danish to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
From a brief email with very little context describing pictures of Penta engines:

Penta Type m2, 5.4 HK, 2 cyl, ca. 1910, 2tændrør og smarkventiler, ses ovenpå motoren.

Anybody know what this is?

Picture engines ca circa about the year 1910 https://www.volvopenta.com/en-us/about-us/history/1910/ Quote, The engine range was extended in this decade to include 2, 3 and 4-cylinder variants. All the 3,268 engines sold before 1920 to boat owners, fire-fighting services, the army, homeowners and other customers had a standard engine speed of 800 rpm. The company changed its name to AB Pentaverken in 1919. Engine manufacturing dominated this period, but profitability was poor during the depression that followed World War I.

very early mechanical ignition

very early ignition systems, consisted of pre chambers, mechanal rods that struck flint rocks, made sparks by friction, in this article the top of piston had a bolt that triggered ignition. (Needs more research, place to start?) Quote in part In order to utilize the low tension spark for ignition
purposes in what was known as the "make and break"
system, the breaker points themselves had to be placed
and operated within the cylinder in a position where the
spark could ignite the fuel. To open and close the points
several devices and arrangements were used, the most
common being a push or turn rod (Figure 46) which
operated through a tight bushing in the cylinder head.
Another system used extensively provided for the actuation of the breaker points by a pin located on the top of
the piston (Figure 47) which, in striking the breaker arm
at the top of its stroke, would separate the breaker points
